Clinic Policies

For non-urgent appointments, please book online through the patient portal on our website.

For medical emergencies, please call 911 or visit the emergency department. If possible, notify the emergency room you are on your way by calling the hospital if you are on quarantine or experiencing symptoms concerning for COVID-19 so they can prepare to see you safely. 

For urgent medical concerns not requiring a visit to the ER, you may call the clinic at 604-556-1501 during office hours if no appointments are available on the online booking system for that day. 

Payment. Currently, payment is required at the time of your appointment, and a receipt will be provided for reimbursement through your Cowan insurance coverage. We are working on arranging direct billing through Cowan, but this is not yet available.

Confidentiality: the doctor will not share your medical information with any other person including your employer unless you have given direct consent to do so.

Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel your appointment, 24 hours notice is required. If 24 hours notice is not provided, a missed appointment fee of $40 will be charged. 

Patient Rights: The clinic will do its very best to uphold your rights. As a patient of the Sumas Medical Centre, you have the right:

  • to be treated with respect and kindness

  • to discuss your health concerns or complaints about your care without  being judged and without fear of receiving poor treatment

  • to receive complete information about your medical condition, treatment, and prognosis in terms you understand and in the language of your choosing

  • to participate in the planning of your care

  • to refuse any procedure, medication, or treatment 

  • to be free from harassment, exploitation, retaliation, and neglect
